A new name, for an old mountain -

Over the past 70 years, this area on the north shore of Lake Lure has been known by several names adopted by the different owners who used the land for purposes such as raising livestock to harvesting timber.  Of course; most people have come to know the area as a mountain resort community, well regarded for a variety of activities and excellent golf courses.

Since the mid-1960’s; one thing to be said about the resort is that it has grown; both as a resort, and as a community of primary and vacation homes.  Over time, the growth has resulted in new neighborhoods and amenities; each built by a succession of owners who shared the vision of creating a timeless mountain resort community and the love of life in a truly beautiful natural setting.

In 2006, the decision was made to bring the neighborhoods, the golf courses, restaurants, and amenities back together, under the same name, to refine the mission and focus of the resort and community.  We knew it was all here; we just needed to let everyone know it all belonged together.  Hence the name; What started as a solitary boat house on the shore of a beautiful lake, has grown into a 3600 acre resort community.  All of it sitting at the base of Rumbling Bald, the mountain with the towering cliffs, like a face keeping a watchful eye over the resort.

It would be hard to think of a more fitting name for this special place.  As a resort, as a club, and as a community, Rumbling Bald embodies the timeless and classic values we expect and appreciate.  The lake, the mountains, and the golf, its all here.
