“In seed time learn, in harvest teach, in winter enjoy.”

–William Blake

At Rumbling Bald Resort we are enjoying these winter days and nights. Whether it be on the golf course, the hiking trails, or enjoying friends and family indoors, we welcome the slower winter pace at Lake Lure. Winter also brings with it dry air that can affect your skin, so The Spa at Rumbling Bald Resort would like to share a few tips to help you balance and soothe the pesky dry skin that often accompanies winter:

The Basics

Use hats, scarfs and coats to keep that harsh winter air off of your skin while outdoors. Protect your lips with a protectant, and use a humidifier inside to moisturize heated air.

Time and Temperature Make a Difference

Cold weather beckons to our bodies to take hot baths and showers, but that hot water and strip the natural oils from your skin. Use warm water instead, and limit yourself to a single 10-15 minute shower a day to avoid excessive moisture loss while bathing.

Soaps and Detergents

American Academy of Dermatology recommends using a gentle cleanser with moisturizer while staying away from harsh additives like deodorants, antibacterial chemicals, perfumes and alcohol. We like products such as Bioelements that boast natural botanicals and essential oils.

Winter Shaving

The best time to shave is after showering when your hair and skin are soft. Use a moisturizing shaving gel and leave it on a few minutes before starting to shave. Use a sharp razor blade to avoid razor burn, and shave in the direction the hair grows.

Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

After you bathe apply a moisturizer. Pay special attention to your face, hands, feet and lips, moisturizing throughout the day, and don’t forget to lotion up before bed.
