Why is Autumn so Beautiful in Lake Lure?
Western North Carolina's extreme elevation variations and biologically diverse microclimates combine to give our area one of the longest and most colorful leaf seasons in the country. According to a number of regional experts such as Parker Andes, Director of Horticulture at Biltmore, the South has more than 100 species of deciduous trees. The combination of topography and color diversity here can make our fall colors spectacular. “The mountains of Western NC have the most forest diversity of anywhere in the country, which gives us a uniquely broad range of fall color and a longer season. From the yellows of Cucumber Magnolias around Balsam Mountain to the burgundy of Black Gums along the Davidson River, there is a rainbow of colors to be seen here. And, because of the different altitudes, microclimates and mild weather, visitors can always find good color and lots of activities throughout the region,” said Andes.

What Can We Do At Rumbling Bald Resort

Within a 30-mile radius of the Resort are some of the most spectacular sights in the region. Plan any mountain vacation using Rumbling Bald as the center.

To our North, the parkway leads past Little Switzerland to Mount Mitchell--the highest elevation in the eastern United States at 6,684 ft. where peak color arrives earliest.

To the West is Biltmore Estate, America's largest home. Ashville is filled with culture, art galleries, and historic architecture, along with festivals such as the October Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands.

To the South is Chimney Rock State Park, affording 75-mile views of Lake Lure, Hickory Nut Gorge, and the Blue Ridge mountains...and the town of Chimney Rock below features over 30 stores and restaurants along the Rocky Broad River.

At Rumbling Bald Resort, you will be surrounded by Autumn Beauty. From the Blue Ridge Parkway to the west, countless hiking trails of Pisgah National Forest beckon with scenic vistas of 6,000 foot peaks, including Cold Mountain the inspiration for the book and movie. Exhilarating mountain biking and cascading waterfalls are waiting to be explored in the DuPont State Forest south of historic Hendersonville, NC. Breathtaking valleys with rushing rivers provide kayaking or rafting at Saluda, NC.

No other place offers the natural beauty and unique experiences of western North Carolina in the fall. And we believe no other destination provides the outstanding value of Rumbling Bald Resort's unique combination of golf, mountains and lake all in one location.
