We are now in Phase Two of NC Governor Roy Cooper’s reopen plan with specific guidelines and recommendations in place.

We look forward to the safe, thoughtful reopening of our restaurants and amenities, and respectfully ask that all Members and Guests adhere to the guidelines set forth by the CDC, the State of NC and our County. It is our hope that with careful planning and execution we can provide areas for enjoyment while still doing our best to safeguard the overall Community.

We will continue to make slight adjustments to our operations based on the latest guidance from State and Local officials, as well as feedback from our members and guests. Please share your comments and concerns with us at

The following signs will be present throughout property reminding our members and guests to practice social distancing of at least 6 feet from others, as well as additional CDC recommendations.

What does Phase Two look like for Rumbling Bald?

  • Continue practicing physical distancing and minimizing exposure.
  • Allow limited opening of restaurants.
  • Allow limited opening of Wellness Center including the indoor pool and personal care services that can follow safety protocols, including the potential need to reduce capacity.
  • Allow limited opening of the Trout Stream Pool Complex that can follow safety protocols, including the potential need to reduce capacity.

  • Increase the number of people allowed at gatherings.

We have implemented enhanced cleaning measures and launched a “worry-free” cancellation policy through July 31, 2020. To provide more flexibility in these uncertain times, Rumbling Bald has adjusted its cancellation policies.  These policies will be in effect for all for reservations arriving May 16, 2020 through July 31, 2020.


  • Cancellation requested more than 14 days before the arrival date is a $50 cancellation fee.  The balance of the deposit is returned.
  • Cancellation between 3 – 13 days, the guest is charged 25% of total booking (1/2 of the deposit being held) Balance of the deposit is returned.
  • Cancellation 2 days and under results in no refund.


  • Guests may reschedule any time during the 12-month period of the original arrival date.
  • Guests may request to reschedule at least 3 days prior to the original arrival date and at such time the guest will receive a credit for the full reservation amount to be used in this 12-month period.
  • If the total due is more or less than the original total, the deposit will remain the same and the final amount due will be adjusted accordingly.
  • This policy only applies to the original guest and is not transferable under any circumstances.


  • It is likely that some of our amenities may not be open during your visit due to state and local COVID-19 guidelines. Call Guest Services at 828.694.3016 for the latest updates.
  • We will provide a full refund with no fees to any guest whose reservation has to be canceled because of restrictions by State or Local mandates.
  • We will provide a full refund with no fees to any guest whose reservation has to be canceled because of a canceled special event such as a wedding, reunion, etc. if it was coordinated through or Sales Department.
  • Reservations arriving after July 31, 2020, follow our standard policy outlined in the Rental agreement.

Enhanced Cleaning Protocols

Here at Rumbling Bald, we are keenly aware of the concerns visitors, staff, homeowners, and the local community have regarding cleanliness and safety. In light of these concerns, we are actively following the CDC guidelines and recommendations on the steps that can be taken to help prevent the spread of the virus. Offering clean and safe rental homes has always been our top priority. We instituted enhanced cleaning protocols and will continue to place an emphasis on our cleaning practices and policies. Here are some of the steps we take between each visit to ensure your home will be sanitized, clean, and disinfected:

  • Our cleaning staff wears gloves and face covers while in our properties.
  • All hard surfaces and high touched areas are cleaned with household disinfectants including doorknobs, handles, toilets, and faucet knobs, light switches, handrails, remote controls, lockboxes, electronics, thermostats, game areas, furniture, kitchen cabinets, and refrigerators, etc.
  • All bed, bathroom and kitchen linens are professionally laundered on the Sanitation Cycle and installed with care.
  • We only use disinfectant products that have been approved by the EPA for use against COVID-19, including ready-to-use sprays, concentrates and wipes. Each product has been shown to be effective against viruses that are harder to kill than viruses like the one that causes COVID-19.

Legends on the Lake Restaurant

We are incredibly excited to get back to serving you in our dining areas!  We ask that members and guests abide by these policies as we ensure the safety of this community and look forward to greater opportunities to serve you.

Hours of operation:

  • Monday – Thursday 11am – 8pm (take-out only)
  • Friday, Saturday & Sunday 11am – 9pm (both dine-in and take-out)

Important Guidelines:

  • Legends will only operate under limited capacity and socially distant policies to protect the safety of our community and associates.
  • Tables may not be moved, and groups of larger than six will be seated in smaller groups.
  • We have increased our outdoor seating capacity. On the patio, the same guidelines apply as dining inside. Outside café style seating is now available adjacent to the entrance of Legends. Provided the weather cooperates we will be able to serve food outside as well as inside.
  • In the bar area only seated dining is allowed. No gathering or bar seating is permitted.
  • Per the White House, Governor, and CDC recommendations all public facing associates will wear masks and practice proper handwashing procedures.
  • All associates will be screened for COVID symptoms prior to beginning work on each shift.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available on all tables for guest use. Please leave in place. Our associates will sanitize and refill.
  • We ask that all guests follow social distancing guidelines of maintaining six feet of space where and when possible, and that guests remain seated while in the restaurant to avoid group gatherings.

In the coming days and weeks, we look to offer beachside cookout and bar options, weather permitting, and applicable permits are attained.

Legends on the Lake Take-Out
This service will be available Monday – Thursday from 11am – 8pm. We have put measures in place to keep our membership, the general public as well as our team safe. All To-Go orders will be picked up outside the building. We will have a payment kiosk set up outside of the entrance to Legends where you will pay and confirm your order. At that point, we will direct you on where to pull up for our team to deliver your order to your car. We ask in this time that everyone keep their appropriate distance and that we minimize person to person contact. We will ensure clean processing and practice the highest levels of sanitation on our part. Please note, for everyone’s safety, we are not accepting cash.

Wellness Center

We are excited to begin welcoming Members and Guests back to our facilities. On Saturday, May 23, the Wellness Center resumed limited operations and personal services. In keeping with the State and Local County directives, the Wellness Center will be operating with limited capacity, and we will introduce new safety protocols, as we work to continue to safeguard our members, guests, and associates.

While you were away, we took the opportunity to have the entire Wellness Center remodeled, professional sterilized, and cleaned all flooring in select locations. We’ve also implemented enhanced cleaning protocols and sterilization equipment for use throughout the facility. All cleaners used to disinfect the Wellness Center and surrounding areas are CDC recommended and EPA approved.

Hours of operation:

  • 7:30am – 8:00pm daily

Front Desk
All associates working at the front desk will be required to wear masks and work behind the provided sneeze guard. No cash transactions will be allowed. All transactions will be contactless. Frequently touched surfaces such as counters, door handles, etc will be disinfected regularly.

Spa & Salon
Reservations only. Limited appointments are available. 15-minute intervals between appointments used for disinfecting between clients. Clients are required to wear masks during their appointment. All appointments will be required to complete an additional Covid-19 intake form prior to the appointment. Intake forms available via email upon request. To protect social distancing we ask for no walk-ins please.

  • Services & Facilities  A select menu of Spa and Salon services will be available during the first phase of our reopening period. Please note that due to limited capacity, not all of your favorite service providers will be available each day. Some areas of the Wellness Center will not be available as part of this first phase.
  • Arrivals  All members and guests will enter through the main entrance. All Spa & Salon guests should arrive five minutes before their appointment time. We have reappointed the Spa waiting area to provide appropriately distanced seating. For everyone’s safety, we are requiring that all guests wear a mask while inside the facility; and hand washing will be required for all nail appointments.

Game Courts
Organized basketball games from multiple households are prohibited at this time. Families in the same household may use the basketball court and game court. Individuals from separate households must practice social distancing. At this time, cornhole will be the only game available. Cornhole bags will be disinfected after use and cornhole boards will be disinfected before use. All racquets, horseshoes, and basketballs rented from the Wellness Center will be disinfected upon return. Use of the outdoor chess, checkers, Connect 4, and Jenga are prohibited.

Mini Golf
Usage will be limited at 50% capacity. Golfers must practice safe social distancing. Associates will disinfect all putters and balls upon return.

Indoor Pool
Indoor pool usage will be limited at 50% capacity. The length of time in the pool will be limited to 45 minutes if there are people waiting. Associates will disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as handrails, door handles, and pool chairs every hour. Individuals from different households must practice safe social distancing. Associates will check the chlorine levels in the pool and hot tub every hour. The Hot Tub is open and limited to one guest at a time. Sauna and Steam Rooms will remain closed. Adult supervision is required for all children under 16. Children under 16 are not permitted to use the whirlpool, steam room or dry sauna.

Fitness Classes and Fitness Room
The Fitness Room and all fitness classes will remain closed for the time being.

Bald Mountain Golf Course

Hours of operation:

  • 8am – 4pm daily

Our goal is to continue phased re-openings with thoughtful planning while doing our best to safeguard the overall community. Please note our Apple Valley golf course is currently closed for maintenance through August 24th, 2020.

​We are taking the following precautions to allow you to enjoy our beautiful golf courses during these difficult times. We are doing everything we can to ensure that the golf courses will be an option to enjoy and we hope you will help us in our goal.

  • The driving ranges will also remain open and balls will be placed on the range each morning for you to enjoy. No need to check-in.
  • Staff will be present in the cart staging area to welcome and check-in members and guests.
  • The staff will disinfect and sanitize golf carts before and after use.
  • Golf carts will still be available, one cart per player, unless your cart partner is an immediate family member. Carts will be made available on a first-come basis.
  • We encourage all golfers to bring hand sanitizer from home to be used while playing golf.
  • Water coolers have been removed from the course until further notice.
  • Please always leave the flagstick in and avoid touching.
  • Please note that bunker rakes have been removed. We ask that golfers do their best to smooth sand surfaces with their feet.
  • On-Course restrooms will continue to be sanitized by our cleaning crews.
  • We have removed sand bottles from our carts until further notice.
  • We will have doors propped open.
  • The water and ice machine will be temporarily out of service.

Apple Valley Golf Course

Outdoor Operations

North Shore Beach Cabana

The Beach Cabana is located directly on Lake Lure, just below Legends on the Lake Restaurant, the Beach Cabana is Rumbling Bald’s lake headquarters. Here, you can rent pontoon boats, kayaks, canoes, and SUP boards. Satisfy your sense of adventure and get up close and personal on either of our beautiful lakes. All rentals include paddle (when applicable) and a life jacket. Prices vary. We are excited to begin welcoming Members and Guests back to our facilities. The Beach Cabana has resumed limited operations. In keeping with the State and Local County directives, the Beach Cabana will be operating with limited capacity and only offering the current rentals:

  • Pontoon Boats
  • Canoes
  • Kayaks
  • SUP Boards

Please note COVID-19 restrictions are in place. Boat occupants must be members of the same family. No tie-ups are allowed and social distancing is required for non-family members.

Hours of operation:

  • 10am – 6pm (weekdays)
  • 9am – 8pm (weekends)

Important Guidelines:

  • All transactions will be credit/debit cards only.
  • There will be lines taped on the floor and surrounding outdoor deck in order to uphold social distancing while in line for purchases.
  • All staff will wear masks/face coverings and gloves and maintain 6’ minimum distance from customers while working with the public.
  • All commonly touched surfaces will be sanitized hourly, and items such as pens will be sanitized after each use.
  • All motorized and non-motorized rentals, and paddles will be sprayed with dawn in solution, and rinsed, after each rental.
  • Consoles, throttle, and steering wheels will be wiped with Lysol wipes after each use.
  • PFD’s (Personal Floatation Devices) will be dunked in Dawn solution and rinsed after each use.
  • The indoor bathroom will be available to the public, the doorknobs, handles, and seat will be sanitized hourly. This would be the only reason the public would go into the Beach Cabana.
  • All guests are expected to maintain social distancing with non-family members while on watercraft.
  • All rentals must be returned 30 minutes prior to closing. 
  • No pets allowed on rentals.
  • Please note our guided Scenic Lake Lure Tours will return later this year.

Trout Stream Pool Complex

The Trout Stream Pool is now open daily for members and resort guests. The Lazy River will remain closed until further notice.

Hours of operation:

  • Weekdays 10am – 6pm; 10am – 12pm (adult swim); 12pm – 6pm (all swim)
  • Weekends 9am – 8pm; 9am – 11am (adult swim); 11am – 8pm (all swim)

The Beach

Rumbling Bald Resort’s private sandy beach is the perfect spot to enjoy the sun, or to take a dip in the Lake.  No glass or personal bonfires are permitted at the beach. Our normal in-season Marshmallow Roasts will not be offered due to current COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines.

Apple Valley Pool

This hidden gem is located off Winesap Blvd., near the Apple Valley Golf Course, and tends to be quieter and more adult-friendly.

Kids Camp canceled for 2020

Our guest’s health and safety remain our top priority here at Rumbling Bald and out of an abundance of caution, this year’s Kids Camp will not be offered due to current COVID–19 restrictions and guidelines.

Transitioning to Contactless Payments

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted our lives in ways we had never imagined. Our everyday interaction with the outside world, with public spaces, the retail environment, and even with one another, have come under intense scrutiny. All of this is rapidly reorienting our understanding of personal hygiene and public health. Out of an abundance of caution for our members, guests, and associates, effective immediately we are implementing a temporary policy to avoid cash handling throughout the resort. The preferred payment method for all transactions will be credit/debit card or via your Member App.
